The Wideawakes added a new class into the Team Hall of Fame, retiring jersey numbers 9 and 22 for Dave Tilley and Zach Leeds. No future Wideawake will wear either of those numbers.
Dave Tilley was a manager for the team, and spent some time co-managing with Zach Leeds. In conjunction with Leeds, he guided the Wideawakes to their first ever championship game. Dave also played in 173 games with the team, accumulating 267 hits (No. 1 all-time when he retired, now No. 5), 149 RBI, as well as a .453 batting average.
Zach Leeds, also a co-manager, was one of the most prolific pitchers in Wideawakes history. Leeds had 137 appearances, including 63 starts, leads the club with 14 Complete Games, while also compiling 563 Innings Pitched. His WHIP (Walks and Hits per Inning Pitched) was 0.99, while his ERA (Earned Run Average) was 4.56.
The Wideawakes are proud to include both of these players in their Hall of Fame.
The 5th time was the charm for the Wideawakes. After 4 championship appearances without a title, the Wakes struck gold in their 5th appearance with a 7-3 win over the Boneheads in 35A. This was the first title in the history of the franchise.
The ending occurred in dramatic fashion. With the bases loaded and no one out in the bottom of the 9th inning, with the score tied at 3-3, Neil Delgado hit a walk-off grand slam off the left field foul pole, carring the jubilant Wakes to the title.
Valentin Escanuela contributed a solo shot in the second inning, Mark Stewart went 3-3 with an RBI, James Dean pitched 8 strong innings, surrendering 3 runs and scattering 10 hits, and Brian Ingstad got the win, pitching a scoreless top of the 9th.
The Wakes now move up to 35AA for the Spring, 2025 season.
December 18, 2017 -
The Wideawakes announced their first Hall of Fame class today, retiring two jersey numbers in the process.
Wideawakes former manager, and founding member, Chris Roelle was inducted, along with former Wakes' players, SS/C Craig Oliver and P Mark Ehrhart. Olivier and Ehrhart will have their jersey numbers retired as well, as No. 3 and 21 will no longer be worn by any future player who plays for the Wakes.
Chris Roelle managed the Wakes through their first tumultuous seasons, fostering a number of roster moves along the way, and solidifying the basis for the franchise for the next decade plus.
Graig Olivier finished his career in the Top 5 in a number of statistical categories, including being the career leader in triples with 14, as well as securing the highest career batting average among eligible players (.556). He also played in three championship games.
Mark Ehrhart had 100 career appearances on the mound with the Wakes, putting him No. 2 all-time. He also has the second-most amount of wins in franchise history (37), innings (383) and strikeouts (218). He played in three championship games with the Wakes during his tenure.
The Wakes plan to add members to the Hall of Fame as the years progress, following a strict criteria that is currently held in secret.
Congratulations to the first members of the Hall of Fame, Class of 2018!
